Q1: We reserved our booth and we specified how many Desktops & Laptops we needed. Just to be clear, they are going to provide us with these technologies?
A1: NO. Every campus will bring their own technologies. Bring your own Desktops, Laptops, or iPads needed to showcase your student's challenge. The reason we added this question was because Technology Services needed to know so that they could prepare the necessary network settings needed for your campus.
Q2: Hi Noe, My school did not meet for coding for a few weeks because of benchmarks, school breaks, etc. We code Mondays and Tuesdays. We were not able to finish projects. (I wasn't sure what we needed to do this time around though, Sorry) So I did not submit challenge or reserve booths. What do you suggest I do at this point? Thanks for your help
A2: Yes, every Elementary Campus is expected to participate. Submit your challenge and Reserve your Booth(Table).
Q3: Is it voluntary or is it mandatory for CTE teacher to present. This is the first time that we are informed of this event? The request for a CTE teacher conflicts with final exam week for our teachers. Will a sub be provided?
A3: Although it was never specified by Curriculum that it is mandatory to participate in this event, it is however an event that our Superintendent has endorsed and is expecting participation from all campuses. Furthermore, it is an event that is being implemented for the purpose of showcasing our current students in our BISD students which will prepare our students when moving on to the next grade level within your cluster elementary(s) to your programs on your campus. In addition, since this is a district initiative, I’m afraid that CTE be will not be covering the cost for substitutes. The substitutes are the responsibilities of each campus.
Q4: I just wanted to clarify the items on the booth registration. -Our project will be Educationgalaxy.com , -We have an estimated 12 students attending. Do we only need the one laptop for the display? We were unsure and we requested for.
A4: You'll be bringing in your own devices. We are just asking what you are bringing so that Technology Services can have the internet & network settings ready for you. They have power plugs but bring your cords.
Q5: Is the BISD Educational Technology & Coding Summit 2017, only for Elementary & High School.
A5: No. Elementary campuses will be showcasing their challenges while Middle & High Schools will be exposing the Elementary students to the technologies already in place and to what they can look forward to when moving to the next grade levels. Although it was never specified by Curriculum that it is mandatory to participate in this event, it is however an event that our Superintendent has endorsed and is expecting participation from all campuses. Furthermore, it is an event that is being implemented for the purpose of showcasing our current students in our BISD students which will prepare our students when moving on to the next grade level within your cluster elementary(s) to your programs on your campus.
Q6: Who will be paying for the Buses, Food, & Substitutes?
A6: The Buses and Food will be provided by the District. The campuses are responsible for paying for their Substitutes.
Q7: What is the Teacher to Student ratio?
A7: Mr. Segura, from Bus Transportation, specified that we will follow the district's policy of 1:10. In other words one chaperone for every ten students. The chaperons may include but not limited to: Certified, Classified, and Approved Parent Volunteers
Q8: Do the students have to wear a specific T-Shirt or Purchase from a specific vendor?
A8: No. Students may wear their <Club Code> coding shirt, if they have one. Otherwise they can wear their school colors. Campuses can purchase from the vendor of their choice. We recommeded "Jan Hall Promotions [email protected] 956.371.9973".
A9: Who is going to stay behind to showcase for the community form 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm?
Q9: 1 Chaperon & 2 students will stay behind to showcase for the community. The buses will return at 1:30 pm and pick up the chaperon & students that stayed behind.
A10: Will the students have name tags?
Q10: No, we will not be providing name tags. But, you are encouraged to create name tags for your students.
A11: No. 1 Chaperone & 2 students will stay behind. The table should never be left unattended. When your group returns then they relieve them to go eat. It's OK that the 2 students & 1 chaperone eat with a different group.
Q11: During lunch, when our group is up, do we leave the table by itself?
A12: Do we have to notify our cafeteria manage that our students will not be eating at our campus?
Q12: Paul Johnson, project manager, has already notified your cafeteria managers of the event. But, it would be a good idea to follow up and remind them that your students will not be eating, at your campus, the day of the summit.
